information for people moving to Poland

Moving to Poland opens the door to an exciting adventure, and here's a range of tips and information you can use as you prepare for this new phase in your life:

  • Polish cuisine is famous for bread, sausages and sauerkraut. However, the cuisine is more diverse and includes influences from Central Europe, Slavic countries and Poland's neighbours. One of the most popular Polish dishes is a meat stew called Bigos and kotlets. Kotlets are also a familiar sight in Finnish grocery stores.

  • Housing costs in Poland are significantly lower than in Finland. In Poland, for example, prices for a two-bedroom apartment start from as little as €200. The most expensive place to live is Warsaw, where you can find a one-bedroom apartment for as little as €500. English is becoming an increasingly popular language in Poland, but still many customer service staff and clerks in Poland do not excel in English. So we recommend learning at least some basic vocabulary.

  • Poland has a two-tier income tax system. For annual incomes of €19 000 and below, the tax rate is 18%. For annual incomes above €19 000, the tax rate is a much higher 32%.
